Watertown Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
Join us November 9th at 11:30 am at the Watertown Event Center for this year’s induction of 3 individuals into the Watertown Hall of Fame.
This year's inductees are:
Dr. John Stransky
The first is entertainer Sherwin Linton, who got his start playing live music on KWAT Radio while he was in high school in the 1950’s.
From there, it was on to Minneapolis and eventually Nashville. Sherwin Linton has recorded more than 500 songs, and after more than 60 years of entertaining, is still out on the road doing more than 200 shows a year.
Sherwin Linton is a member of the South Dakota Hall of Fame and the South Dakota Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The second member of the class is Florence Bruhn, one of the best known teachers in the history of Watertown schools. She taught art for 37 years, created the Ki-Yi Homecoming Legend in Watertown, was a founding member of the Watertown Arts Council and wrote plays and books.
Bruhn, from Platte, South Dakota, was also a winner of the Spirit of Dakota Award, given to a woman who has demonstrated vision, courage and strength of character. She passed away in 1999.
The third inductee this year is Dr. John Stransky. The now retired 94 year-old family practice physician and surgeon was a member of the Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. He started the hospice program in Watertown in the early 1980’s.
John and his wife were married for 60 years, raising five daughters. Prior to coming to Watertown in 1947, Dr. Stransky served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force as a general and flight surgeon.
The induction ceremony will be held Friday, November 9th at the Watertown Event Center beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are available at the Watertown Chamber of Commerce by calling 605-886-5814.
